Parents simply want the best for their kids. They want to protect them. They want them to be happy. And they want them to be healthy, so they can live a long, enriching life with as little bumps in the road as possible.
And so, many parents do their
best to provide this. They do so by keeping “bad” foods out of the
house, by emphasizing the harmful effects of sugar, by forbidding
them of certain foods that are assumed to result in weight gain and
encouraging exercise from an early age.
All
of this might not seem very harmful, but what’s happening is that
many parents with unresolved disordered eating habits of their own
are subconsciously passing off their disordered eating habits to
their children, which negatively impacts their relationship with
food and could possibly set them up for a lifetime of unhealthy
habits around food if not intervened otherwise.

more mindful of the “healthy habits” we are passing off to our
children is Dr. Jillian Murphy, who is a licensed Doctor of
Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Murphy works with families who have
children who are struggling to eat competently. Dr. Murphy offers
up the most sound, healthful and researched-validated advice for
families looking to raise children who are a joy to feed, who grow
well and have a great relationship with their bodies.
